S&T Iskratel unveils the world’s fastest PON OLT

Operators can avoid costly hardware investments while virtualizing and upgrading their fiber networks to meet faster broadband requirements for homes and businesses with the latest release of two new top-of-the-line optical line terminals (OLTs) and multi-terabits.

The staggering 1.4Tbps uplink capacity of the new Lumia T6 turned on makes it the world’s fastest shelf-based PON OLT, enabling seamless technology upgrade in the same chassis when new generations of PONs become available. With 800Gbps per subscriber blade and a switching capacity of 3.4Tbps, the Iskratel Lumia T6 will easily support 50GPON and 100GPON as well as current 10 gigabit PON technologies such as Combo PON and XGS-PON.

The company also announced the launch of its own Lumia T14 turned on, a super-scalable, high-density OLT capable of hosting present and future PON technologies. While Iskratel Lumia T6 can serve more than 20,000 users with its 80/64 ports, the larger Iskratel Lumia T14 can provide PON connectivity to more than 50,000 users with its Combo PON 208/192 ports.

Coupled with the high speeds of OLTs, service providers can now seamlessly expand their networks and increase the overall number of subscribers in both urban and rural areas.

“Services such as video conferencing, 4K video streaming, gaming and cloud storage are rapidly gaining popularity, creating a growing demand for data speeds for reliable performance,” said Simon Čimžar, CTO, Broadband Business Unit at S&T Iskratel. “The outstanding uplink capabilities of our new OLTs are the fastest way to unlock a greener future, thanks to full compliance with the EU Code of Conduct on Energy Consumption of Broadband Equipment, which is essential to enable operators to reduce energy costs and their impact on the environment.”

“The new OLTs can support both current and next generation PON technologies. Furthermore, it is designed for virtualized operation on the same hardware which guarantees operators the return and security of their investment,” added Čimžar.

The industry-leading temperature range of –40°C to +65°C means that S&T Iskratel’s Lumia OLTs can be deployed both at the central office and in less thermally controlled remote locations such as street lockers.

The new additions to the portfolio will be showcased exclusively at the FTTH conference in Madrid, April 18-20, 2023. Iskratel S&T experts will be at booth G12 to provide further insights.
